| With the entry of the new century, more and more political documents are in urgent need to be translated into different languages due to continually increasing cultural exchange. It is very important to ensure the most accurate translation work for such texts, which are closely connected with major issues at home or abroad as well as political stances and ideas of one country or a nation. Although great progress has been made in C-E translation of Chinese political documents, problems still exist. Besides, new challenges arise since lots of new words and terms have emerged since the beginning of the reform and opening-up, of which the translation studies will be of great significance both theoretically and pragmatically.Through analysis of Nida's equivalence theory, the thesis aims at conducting initial study and exploration of China's government work report. The author mainly analyzes both Chinese and English editions of the report to the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) from lexical and syntactical aspects so as to learn achievements in this field, seek potential principles of translation as well as effective strategies and methods which will benefit further translation work concerning political text. |
