A Report On The Translation Of Chinese Political Documents Under The Dynamic Equivalence Theory

This paper is a translation project, which includes both the translation of article and its research report. This report is based on 2013 Report on the Work of Government with almost 15,000 Chinese characters. It reviews the government’s work of the past five years, outlines plans and polices on fields of politics, economy, culture, diplomatic, etc., presents one of the most important sources of information about Chinese situation and policies of the government, and thus this project is surely of great significance.Under the dynamic equivalence theory of Nida, the author believes that faithfulness and accessibility should be coordinated with each other in the translation of 2013 Report on the Work of Government. The author makes a thorough analysis of differences in English-Chinese syntax, such as hypotactic and paratactic, active and passive, tree and bamboo structure, topic and subject prominence, and closed ending and beginning. And then the author also puts forwards some translation methods by comparison of the student’s version and the official version released by Xinhua News Agency. All this aims to keep the consistency of the information and overcome the cultural obstacles and to attain better communication with readers. Finally, the author hopes that this paper will shed some light on how to translate Chinese political documents into English in the future.
