Jorge.Luis.Borges is one of the greatest literary masters in 20th century. With his deep insight into the world, profound knowledge, rich imagination as well as innovative writing skills he win the praise of extensive range of readers.With his creating 'Encyclopedia' novel-like structure, tortuous circle ' labyrinth ' as a image, the effect of 'real as well as unreal' reading, he was praised for 'writer's writer' and all of these have been concerned by a wide range of the world's literature and criticism.This paper holds that what behind the innovation of form and content is Borges for understanding the nature of the universe,thinking of the time pattern, identity of self-awareness, existence of the actual situation in life, and practice actively in literary discourse. All of these show that Borges brought to us is something from the perspective of the ultimate concern.There are five parts in this paper:The introduction part introduced Borges and his influences, analysis of the research status,the causes and significance of the topic,and Borges'work from the perspective of ultimate concern.The chapter one introduced Borges for understanding the nature of the universe which from the perspective of library,book and word.The chapter two introduced Borges view of the time which focus on the time bifurcation from the 'The Garden of Forking Paths'and other time patterns such as time of stagnation and circulation. The chapter three introduced the self-awareness by means of the 'mask' and the 'face' as the image , the double identity of 'I' and 'Borges', the Pantheism-like identity.The chapter four introduced Borges'view of the reality and illusion and his sigh of the dream-like life.The last conclusion indicated the far-reaching significance for Chinese literary and criticism at the moment which Borges'ultimate concern and the metaphysical aesthetic value reflected by his work.
