With the application and development of multimedia computer technologies, foreign language teaching sees its new opportunities and challenges. Foreign language teachers find it necessary and important to employ multimedia in their language teaching. The use of Multi-media can facilitate and motivate the students to learn more actively and independently by taking advantage of the combination of text, sound, graph, image and animation in the teaching process to present the learning content in an efficient way. The direct viewing and vivid visual function of multimedia technology of computer,which is an essential complement to the traditional English listening teaching is extremely advantageous. However,a lot of mistakes about the cognition and use of multimedia technology have become the barriers to effective English listening teaching. Thus, it's of great practical significance to probe how the employment of multimedia technology can change the status quo of the listening teaching of College English and improve the quality of educational process.Introduction part poses research questions, clarifies the objects and significance of the research and presents the study methods and the structure of the whole thesis. Besides,the paper is comprised of six chapters. Chapter one reviews the literature on the study of listening teaching in foreign language teaching aided by multimedia both at home and abroad; Chapter two elaborates the theoretical foundations of the study; Chapter three is about the need analysis of the English listening course aided by multimedia taught in Huaiyin Institute of Technology, which is based on the survey of some students and teachers there; Chapter four is how my tentative teaching practice performs with the assistance of multimedia in English listening teaching on the basis of the previous need analysis, in which the choice of teaching materials and the use of teaching strategies are focused on; Chapter five analyses the results of the practice; The last chapter concludes the problems existed in the study, points out the limitations and proposes suggestions for improvement.The result concluded from the research is expected to provide some valuable references for the effective College English listening teaching in the future.
