| The form of interrogative sentence "F+VP" is a very special one in modern Chinese dialect and has its own characteristics in syntactic structure and distribution. Most researchers explore it from a very narrow aspect, concerning only some areas. The thesis attempts to investigate the form "F+VP"more comprehensively from synchronic and diachronic perspective with the help of typology. It consists of five parts. The first part is about the introduction. It includes research situation about dialect grammar and the form "F+VP", research questions, the significance of the research and research methods. The second part mainly discusses the form "F+VP"in Chinese dialect synchronically and diachronically. In the first part, the thesis puts emphasis on the development of "F+VP" form. It occurs during the transitional period form ancient time to Middle Age, which is distributed unevenly. The next part is comparative studies about the "F+VP" sentences pattern. This sentence mainly distributed in east longitude 115°-120°and latitude 30°-35°(Radiation to the north is mainly in Shandong Province, especially Shandong Peninsula, radiation to south extends to the northeast of Jiangxi) and most of Yunnan Province and Yunnan regions and a few adjacent areas of other provinces.Part III:the third chapter is a case study of "F+VP" Question Patterns in modern Chinese dialects. By a detailed description and analysis on the dialect from Yunnan Zhanyi, I have the overall view on the "F+VP" Question Patterns in the distribution of Yunnan. I take doubt, Yunnan Zhanyi dialect system as the starting point and describe the geographical distribution of the syntax as well as the functions of this sentence. In Zhanyi dialect, the question adverb "F" can only be followed by VP, that is it cannot be followed by nouns. But if we add "yes" after the "F", it will be in the right form. It is optional to add subject in front of "F" and it can be omitted in spoken language; "F" in the interrogative role is to show "question focus" and determine the degree of interrogative questions.Part IV:Chapter IV concerns about the significance of typology in the form "F+ VP" interrogative sentence type, combining the phenomenon of dialect and the dialect theoretical explanation, demonstrating the value and significance of research about modern Chinese dialects. The exploration of "F+VP" distribution provides a strong argument for the formation of dialects, dialect contact and the fusion. The establishment of dynamic development of dialect also provides a proof of the origin of dialects, which is helpful for a deep understanding of dialect.Part V:Conclusion. It reviews the whole thesis, reach the final conclusions, and also mentions the problems to be solved. |
