| How to improve the quality of life of older people is a focus to the government and the aging of the academic. There are many factors affect the quality life of the elders. A investigation of life satisfaction of elders found that social support is the most important factor of all the factors. The second one is health state. The mental state of elders is not very good. It is significant to study the influence of social support to the mental health of urban elder.Get to know the mental state of the urban elders. Get to know the social support state of the urban elders. Reveal the intrinsic link between social support and mental health. To afford reference and theoretical basis of the improvement of mental health of the elders. Based on the social support theory, the relevant sociology of urban elder theory and the needs theory. It takes the way of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis and, having done systematically survey on the urban elders. The writer invested 305 elders who live in Tianxin district of Changsha. The writer used Social Support Rating Scale, SCL-90, self questionnaire to invest the elders. And analyze the data with SPSS11.5.The method include frequency analysis, independent samples t test, linear correlation analysis and logistic regression.After analyzing the economic state of the urban elders, we found that the economic state, education state, medical state of urban elders are not good. The social support of them should be strengthen. Some elders want to participate community management and enrich spiritual life. The mental state of elders is not very good. The total average data of urban elderly mental health is 1.90±0.39, whereas normal adults is 1.44±0.43.The mental state of the male is not as good as the female. The person whose income is lower, the mental state is more unhealthy. The subjective support of urban elders is 18.79±4.92, the objective support of urban elders is 8.96±3.51, both of them are lower than the normal data. The degree of social support is inversely related to mental health. And the correlation coefficient is -0.747. We can conclude that social support and income are important factors to mental health.We should concern on the social support of urban elders. We should optimize the community care-services system for the elders. We should improve the community medical institutions. We can hold older universities and widen job opportunities channel, encourage the urban elders go back to work again. In order to improve the mental health we should promote access and availability of social support. |
