Today, almost everyone in the world knows the name Harry Potter. Though there have only been ten years since the release of the first book, this series has been translated into 64 languages and published in more than two hundred countries by now. The books, full of imagination and fantasies, are sold hotly and fast. With the vivid and unique characters, they fascinate children from different countries and different age groups.As an important and special tool to introduce foreign literature, the translation of children's literature has become more and more popular. This thesis attempts to discuss the translation of children's literature from the Skopostheorie with a case study of the Chinese version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. It is to demonstrate that Vermeer Han's Skopostheorie has provided a comparatively theoretical guidance for the translation of children's literature, and to offer possible suggestions for the related translation theories building by analysing how Skopostheorie is being used in practice.
