A lot of researches show the existence of general intelligence (g factor).Working memory and processing speed are two elementary cognitive processing factors, which are most important issues in the field of cognition. Researchers have paid more and more attention to the effects of these two kinds of cognitive elements on intelligence. And they're regarded as the cognitive foundation of general intelligence. However, there were few evidence of the relationship between associative learning and general intelligence. So the researchers neglected the importance of associative learning on general intelligence. Until now researchers found out that associative learning are related to general intelligence, so they began to put emphasis on the relationship between associative learning and general intelligence. To explore the relationships among working memory, processing speed, associative learning and general intelligence, we chose more than 300 students from the elementary school of Shanghai and Yancheng as participants. We will also explore the unique and joint predictive power of working memory, processing speed and associative learning on general intelligence. The cognitive abilities we tested in this study include working memory, processing speed, associative learning and general intelligence. The results were as following:1.Associative learning ability is highly related to general intelligence and it has the predictive power on it.2.The relative importance of working memory, processing speed and associative learning varies with intelligence ability level.3.The three cognitive elements account for more than 80% variance of general intelligence.
