| Objective:With the changes of marriage concept and family structure, divorce rate was increasing year by year. Single-parent families were increasing. Single-parent children were vulnerable to be injuryed psychologically because of missing the fatherly or motherly love. Egocentrism cognitive model was quite prominent. Cognitive distortions occurred. Negative emotion such as anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, fear was increasing. Behavior distortions occured easily, such as bad interpersonal relationships. So their cognition, affection and intentions formed a vicious circle. This study firstly applied NaiKan Cognitive Therapy (NCT) to single-parent medical students, to evaluate the effects of NCT on their psychosomatic symptoms and explore a suitable psychological intervention method for this special group.Methods:On the basis of survey of mental health to undergraduates in Tianjin Medical University in October 2009,80 single-parent medical students were recruited.69 students out of them were voluntary to take part in this study. Informed consents were obtained from the participants. All participants were divided into NCT group and control group at random. In NCT group, the participants received NCT. In control group, the participants participated in daily school mental health education. Pre-and post- intervention, symptom checklist (SCL-90,Middle school students Irrational Beliefs Scale (MIBS),Affective balance scale (ABC),Perceived social support scale (PSSS),Self-Esteem Scale (SES),self consistency and congruence scale (SCCS) and Acceptance of others scale (AOS) were administered to all subjects.Results:69 single-parent medical students are recruited in the study,30 subjects in NCT group and other 35 subjucts in control group were involved the result analysis.①A significant decrease occur in SCL-90 total score and factor scores except somatization in NCT group(t=2.591-7.853, P<0.05); In the post-intervention, SCL-90 total score and factor scores except somatization are significantly lower in NCT group than in control group (t=-4.470--2.786, P<0.01).②A significant decrease occur in MIBS total score and all factor scores in NCT group (t=2.455-3.052, P<0.05); In the post-intervention, MIBS total score and all factor scores are significantly lower in NCT group than in control group (r=-3.683--2.437, P< 0.05).③There are significant differences in ABC total score and all factor scores in NCT group (t=3.112, P=0.004; t=-3.525,P=0.001;t=-4.750,P=0.000);The ABC total score significantly decrease in control group (t=2.420, P=0.041); In the post-intervention, there are significant differences in ABC total score and all factor scores in NCT group than in control group (t=-1.887,P=0.064;t=4.719, P=0.000).④A significant increase occurr in PSSS total score and all factor scores in NCT group (t=-5.370--3.034, P<0.01);In the post-intervention, there are significant differences in the PSSS total score and all factor scores between two groups (t=4.245, P=0.000; t=3.874, P=0.000; t=2.609, P=0.011).⑤A significant decrease occur in SES total score (t=4.560, P=0.000) in NCT group;In the post-intervention, there is significant difference in SES total score between two groups(t=-2.943, P=0.005).⑥there are significant differences in SCCS total score and all factor scores in NCT group (t=-2.676-4.811,P<0.05);In the post-intervention, there are significant differences in SCCS total score and all factor scores between two groups (t=-3.725-4.167, P<0.05).⑦A significant increase occur in AOS score in NCT group (t=-4.125, P=0.000);In the post-intervention, there is significant difference in AOS score between two groups (t=2.630, P=0.011)Conclusion:①NCT can improve single-parent medical students' psychosomatic symptoms remarkably.②NCT can significantly reduce the level of irrational beliefs of single-parent medical students.③NCT can help to balance emotions for single-parent medical students.④NCT help single-parent medical students understand more social support.⑤NCT can improve single-parent medical students'single-esteem.⑥NCT can improve single-parent medical students'level of self consistency and congruence.⑦NCT can improve single-parent medical students'level of acceptance of others.⑧As a short and easy operating method, NCT has a broad application prospect to single-parent medical students. |
