| Confucius and Jesus Christ are two key figures in Confucianism and Christianity. What they said and behaved have been influencing on the modern society and world in the 21th century through more than 2,000 years of history. At first, the paper discussed about the concept of "ren" in The Analects of Confucius, whose views of self-cultivation and the widespread of it to the whole society and even the cosmos that formed the theory basis of harmony at that time. Then Jesus'"love" idea and his preaching also played the same role in his times. Though being a little bit different, both Confucius and Jesus Christ wished to spread their harmonious idea to the whole society. Thought of harmony between people, harmony in nature and cosmos by Confucius and Jesus Christ came into being due to the fall of social virtues, or the loss of harmony, so the paper analysed classic works of Confucianism and Christianity from the perspective of harmony, from loss of harmony, bridge to harmony, to realization of harmony, what has been expected is that they will still exsert great influences upon our socialist harmonious society. However, socialist harmonious society is different from that in Confucius and Jesus Christ times, it contains new meanings and new contents, however, there is no doubt that it originated from Confucius' idea of harmony 2,000 years ago. Besides this, socialist harmonious society is not actually our ultimate goal but harmonious world, which is the ultimate aim and common dream of people all around the world. On the way to this goal, both The Analects of Confucius and Bible play an important role in realizing it. Through the comparative study of these two classic books, it has been found that they share a lot in constructing a harmonious world. So no matter in constructing socialist society or a harmonious world, seeking common points and reserving differences, and friendly dialogue between them will definitely be important to harmony. |
