The objective of this thesis is to study the factors of subjective well-being of elders. One hundred and sixty-five elders of state-owned company in Xi'an were measured by means of Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale(PGC), Self-rated Health Measurement Scale(SRHMS), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), Social Support Scale and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire. By analyzing the outcome of the investigation, I have come to the following conclusions.1. From the research, we can see that different genders of the elders differ significantly in their subjective well-being, with females getting higher scores than males, that is to say, females have more subjective well-being than males. But male and female old people show little difference in self-assessment of health, personality, coping style and social support.2. Apparently age brings about great difference in elder 's self-assessment of health, personality, coping style and social support. The increasing of the age is accompanied by the decreasing scores of the self-assessment of elders. The scores of positive coping style decrease gradually and the same is true of negative coping style. However, the scores of negative coping style of the very old age group are higher than those of the other age group. This is a phenomenon deserving our attention. The increasing of age induces the decreasing of social support. Our research shows that the factors which have remarkable influence on the elders' social support come down to age, educational background and financial status.3. Different educational backgrounds of elders result in significant difference on their self-assessment of health, personality and subjective well-being. At the same time, educational background affects coping style and social support, too. In general, the better education an elder has, the more scores of self-assessment health, social support, coping style and the subjective well-being he or she has. But we also found that the group with the best education didn't receive the best scores, which remains to be further studied.4. The dimensionality of the self-assessment of health and the subjective well-being showed wide correlation. The self-assessment of health and subjective well-being are positively correlated: positive coping and the subjective well-being of the elder have significant positive correlation while negative coping and subjective well-being have significant negative correlation.5. In our research, we didn't find that financial status has influence on the subjective well-being of the elders, which didn't accord with the other research.6. The regression analysis indicated that these factors, the self-assessment of health, personality, coping style and social support have noticeable regressive effect on the subjective well-being and its factors. According to the result of regression analysis, we have built a path model of influences of the self-assessment of health, personality, coping style and social support on elder's subjective well-being.
