As a typical phenomenon in modern political life, political participation has always been matters of common concern to experts in political science. Political science is mutual effects between government authority and social power. It also has an influence on the rise and fall of government authority and social power. Being a critical content of democracy, political participation is a major measurement of political modernization. China is a big agricultural country. Peasants are the main body of the society, so peasants' political participation is an indispensable factor in the development of Chinese democracy. The development of peasants' political participation reflects the historical course of Chinese social democracy construction. The level of peasants' political participation exerts a significant influence on the whole condition of Chinese democracy development.Considered the situation of peasants' political participation in the past decades, we can see that sometimes peasants are active; sometimes they are inactive in political participation. And they show different abilities in political participation. The writer made a rural survey in two villagers; the situation there mirrors the characteristic of political participation. Namely, situation where institutionalized participation and non-institutionalized participation coexist, unbalanced main body, diversified orientation coexists. Because of this, this study has a realistic meaning. The writer made a though and all-round research into current peasants political participation in the process of villagers autonomy. The case study is also involved.Chapter one describes the situation of political participation in the special village. Chapter two generalizes and analyzes the characteristic of current peasants' political participation in the way of width, depth and effect of participation. Chapter three examines what caused uneven participation level from four aspects which are economic factor, institutionalization and form of organization, political culture and peasants' own qualities. Chapter four proposes a solution to how to pave the way for participation in good order. This includes providing effecting the development of rural economy to provide the material base, establishing new rural political culture to improve villagers' participation abilities, establishing rural social organizations to enhance villagers' abilities in acquiring their interests and leading and supervising by the mess media. Finally, the whole thesis is summarized.
