The Taiwan Policy Set At 17^th CPC National Congress: Characteristics And Its Impact On Cross-strait Situation

This paper is an analysis of the Taiwan policy set at 17^th National Congress of CPC.It points out the highlights in the policy,which,for the first time,introduces four political approaches to Taiwan problem,including describing the peaceful development of cross-strait relationship,signing an agreement on cross-strait peace,defining the mainland and Taiwan as a whole of common fate,supporting the economic development of West Coast of Taiwan Strait and other areas with large investment from Taiwan business.Based on a concrete analysis of the carry-out of this policy,the paper concludes its function on constraining the tendency of Taiwan indepedence and realizing a peaceful cross-strait development,as well as acquiring the trust and sympthy from Taiwan people.To promote the cross-strait peaceful development,the paper further points out,we should stick to the following principle:setting up mutual trust,putting aside disputes,looking for commonness and suspending differences, and working together for mutual interest.Besides,we should properly tacke the tough and heating problems with cross-strait relationship,monitor the unsteady elements in cross-strait situation,prevent the rebirth of Taiwan independence activity,construct the mainland and enhance its strength in founding a basis for peace unification of the country.
