Tutor, Associate Professor Zhu Dong Postgraduate, Guo XufengThe traditional Chinese shadowboxing, rooted in Chinese, is an excellent sporting item belonging to the world cultural heritage, and it has a long cultural history with the enormous practicing crowd as large as in China. It combines functions, bodybuilding, attacking and defending with personality-edifying, so that it arouses the attention of peoples with colors in the world. Modern research has proved that shadowboxing has effects of keeping fit for human body, especially suitable for the elder citizens. However, during the research in the recent years, some scholars pointe out that there exists a kind of phenomenon showing practicing shadowboxing can cause knee-joint pain in some cases. To make things clear and offer a better environment for the development of the sport, we did the survey. In this essay, ordinary questionnaire survey, common in Epidemiology survey, was put into use. We made the survey among the practicing group about some basic details. According to the survey, we need to classify the groups and do deeper analysis. After comparison of the phenomena I found the causes and reasons of the knee-joint pain.Facts are as follows, (1) the basic information of the practicing groups is that they are mainly the retired and more male than female; the average age is about 12.12 years around 60.67. Among the groups we surveyed, 94.4% practise three times a week, and 92.8% continue the practising for more than 30 minutes. The aim of most people is to strengthen their bodies; the spot is usually the park or the community; the means is mainly the skill series, while some do certain preparations and assistant practising. (2) 47.2% among the group declare that they got the knee-joint pain before taking shadowboxing, while 52.8% didn't suffer that before doing this sport. (3) 16.87% among them didn't suffer that pain before practicing, but they did after; meanwhile,12.4% suffered before and they didn't after; which can be proofs that shadowboxing has the faunction to lessen or cure the knee-joint pain. (4) 51.8% among those who get the pain from the shadowboxing practicing state that they suffer at the beginning, and 53% say it is a sort of ache. We classify the groups according to the standard of the Changhai Pain Suffering Heuristic Evaluation, and we get the results that 54.7% of them don't need the painkillers and that the pain doesn't have influence on everyday life and sleep. (5) Data shows that among people learning from the successor of the shadowboxing, the rate of people suffering is the lowest; while the rate of those learning from the video or books is the highest. The average weight of those who practise with pain is 2kg more than those who do without pain. The percentage of those who do without pain and keep practising for more than 3 years is 65.7%, while the percentage of those who do with pain and for more than 3 years is 49.4%. (6)The data shows the pain has some relationship with age. The incidence of the pain-accuring becomes lower and lower with the growth of age, esp for those elder than 60 years old. (7) The percent of people who turn to doctors when suffering the pain during practising is only 19.1%, that's to say, the number of the treating and curing cases is too small.Proposals and suggestions:(1) more researches on the knee-joint pain suffering from practising shadowboxing should be furthered and doubled with the combination of the medical treating and curing. The causes and degrees should be further explored, and more researches on the consequences and reasons about how the shadowboxing can keep the knee-joint healthy are to be done. (2) the skills of the shadowboxing and the the means of teaching should be standardized; gestures of the learners should be kept too low, and bear in mind that controlling the amount and intensity of exercise, and the exerciser's weight should be kept in harmony. (3) people who do shadowboxing but suffer the knee-joint pain at hte same time should go to doctors actively. (4) standardize the shadowboxing skills, combine the latest scientific research with breathing technique and nourishing of life, and enact common and ordinary bodybuilding shadowboxing to maintain our bodies healthy.
