The application of new rules in table tennis has certain influence on the techniques and tactics in the matches. To adapt to the change of rules, many specialists and experts have taken out a series of statistical analysis and research on the matches held under the new rules. However, most of these are based on syllogistic method, and cannot reflect in detail the specific usage of techniques and tactics adopted in the matches. This paper takes two outstanding national table tennis players, Ma Long and Zhang Jike, as the research objects, and by using document-data method, observation-analysis method, and the method of comparative analysis, gives a relatively thorough analysis and research on the techniques and tactics adopted in the thirty matches they've taken since 2008. The final conclusion is as follows:1. During the serving period, Ma Long's delivery of service is varied and powerful, which led to competitor's reception error and get the point directly. Zhang Jike's delivery of service is less varied and powerful than that of Ma Long, and he gets less service points. The service lines Zhang Jike uses mainly focus on the mid-way and forehand/backhand slash.2. Apart from gaining score directly through short and long service, Zhang Jike and Ma Long frequently use the "twist" technique, which let them get the upper hand during the second round. Zhang Jike, in especial, scores directly and gains significant advantage by using backhand twist3. In the third round, they use less controlling techniques and more offensive techniques. Quick attack immediately after service is the main scoring method. Ma Long uses more quick attack after the service, more forehand & backhand pull/attack, and his scoring average is high. Zhang Jike also uses forehand & backhand direct attack right after the service, yet he uses more twist-pull technique; the whole attacking line is quiteartful. 4. In the fifth and seventh round, when the match goes into a stalemate stage, both of them reduce the frequency of controlling techniques and adopts more attacking techniques. The whole techniques mainly focus on forehand & backhand pull/attack. Ma Long's ability in forehand & backhand attack is higher than that of Zhang Jike, however, Zhang Jike's ability in backhand attck is higher than that of Ma Long. Ma Long needs to improve his attacking ability during the stalemate stage.5. In the second round, the use of offensive techniques is obviously reduced, the tactics mainly focus on the controlling techniques, especially the short put and long split technique. Zhang Jike uses more short put, while Ma Long used more long split.6. In the fourth and sixth round, the usage of controlling techniques decrease, while the usage of offensive techniques increases. Both of them scores mainly through forehand attacks. Ma Long's scoring average is higher than that of Zhang Jike in the fourth round of attack, yet is s little lower in the sixth round. Zhang Jike's scoring average through backhand attack is relatively higher when the match goes into the stalemate stage, while Ma Long's forehand attack is more constant.7. In the later period of the eighth round, the controlling techniques is rarely used. The offensive techniques mainly focus on the forehand & backhand attack such as pull and anti-pull. Before the end of the stalemate stage, both of them scores inconstantly and the losing average is high. Both of them need to improve their scoring constancy and increase the scoring average during the stalemate period...
