Accompanied with the carrying out of the New English Curriculum, there are a lot of new problems arising from the field of English teaching in the primary schools. This thesis holds the hypothesis that game-teaching approach should be adopted in children's English teaching, and also probes into the reliability and pros and cons of using games in the process.Starting from the significance of games in children's English teaching, the thesis introduces some scholars' illustration of using games in the teaching process. From the theoretical perspective of Acquisition/learning hypothesis, Input Hypothesis and Affective Filter Hypothesis in SLA (Second Language Acquisition), the importance of teaching games is further proved. We used research methods such as questionnaires and classroom observation to investigate the effectiveness of using games in the teaching process. From the result of questionnaire, we can see that almost all the students show great interest in these games. Most of them can enjoy the games their teachers organize. Teachers applied those games in all the stages of the language teaching. Analyzed from the class observation, the games actually aroused these students' interest. Most of the teachers adopted the competitive games to stimulate their team spirit. However, there are still some problems in the model for teaching games. Conclusions have been drawn in this thesis as follows: the process of teaching games should be under control with teaching objectives to serve the teaching content. Teachers have to judge the results of the teaching games correctly. While organizing the teaching games, teachers should develop students' cooperative skills. Meanwhile, it is necessary for the language teachers to create new games with appropriate methods.
