Urged by parents' increasing demand of their kids to learn English as early as they can, more and more kindergartens have been taking English course. English education in kindergartens is a new question for study. In recent years, English education has also entered quite a few kindergartens in Lanzhou. How are English teachers doing with this course? And what are the questions during their operation? In order to improve English education in kindergartens of Lanzhou, we must acquaint ourselves with the current conditions. Therefore, a study on English education in kindergartens of Lanzhou has the practical meaning.The study is based on Theory of Language Acquisition of Children-Cognitive Interaction Model, the Natural Route Hypothesis and the Affective Filter Hypothesis posed by Krashen, Discourse Theory and the Ideas of Pre-school Children's Language Education. The main methods in the study are questionnaire, interview, observation and object gathering.The main contents included in the study are as follows: conditions about English teachers, English education fundamental conditions in kindergartens, contents and implementation of English education teachers' training and needs. According to the investigation, I've got to know there are seven shortcomings about English education in kindergartens of Lanzhou :Firstly, not only leaders and English teachers in kindergartens but also parents have no exact notions to children's English education; Secondly, the English level of teachers is not high in general; For the third place, the teaching methods used by teachers are not variable; Fourthly, teachers' ability of teaching and research is comparatively inferior; Fifthly, the class size is too large; Sixthly, there is no scientific evaluation system about English education in kindergartens; Finally, kindergartens failed to give enough training to their English teachers. At the same time, this paper has made some affirmatives to the achievements of English education in kindergartens of Lanzhou. For example, most of the kindergartens have positive attitude to developing English education, and this has urged more parents and researchers to pay attention to children's English education. To a great extent, this situation has impelled the development of children's English education in Lanzhou .In addition, before starting to set English course to children, most of kindergartens have offered a short-time training to the teachers who are going to teach English and some kindergartens' positive attitude to English teachers' in-service training will benefit to teachers' further development. Moreover, the English teachers have accumulated certain experiences and have been becoming mature gradually.The results of the investigation reflect advantages and disadvantages of English education in kindergartens of Lanzhou. Also they offer realizable bases for improving English education. According to the results, some countermeasures and suggestions have been put forward in the study from changing notions, strengthening English teachers' training, especially the training for teachers who work at their own kindergartens, using suitable contents and teaching methods, setting up a good language environment, getting kindergartens cooperate with families and reducing the size of class.
