Guidance and counseling needs are the general difficulties that the early adolescents experienced when they are performing the social role and developmental tasks ,and these difficulties can be solved by counseling. The assessment on student's guidance and counseling needs is the outset of the whole school counseling work. The research aims at exploring structure of guidance and counseling needs; the concrete content of adolescents' counseling needs; their distribution and change in different grades and school types; which items are more urgent; the difference among student, parents and head teachers.The research tools are The Counseling Needs Assessment Scale for Adolescents which is compiled by researcher . The credibility and validity of the scale are analyzed and proved. Results show that they are appropriate for the study.The study makes use of the SPSS for Windows 11.5 software and Lisrel 8.3 software to analysis the counseling needs of adolescents. The results show that the guidance and counseling needs are consist of learning counseling needs, personal counseling needs and career counseling needs; and the three dimensions can be decomposed to 9 sub-dimensions, the guidance and counseling needs of early adolescents are between "a little need" and "much need" in the whole; their needs have no difference between boys and girls; their counseling needs have significant difference among different school types and grades, and the school type and grade have interaction; for the key school , the counseling needs of grade 6 and grade grade 9 are litter than other grades; for the general school, the counseling needs are bigger with the grade' increase; the counseling needs of students at junior high school are bigger significantly than that of students at elementary school in learning skills, self cognition and skills of seeking job.Comparing the difference of the assessment on the same student's counseling needs, the result shows that the parents' assessment is higher significantly than thatof student himself and head teacher, and there is no significant difference between student and head teacher. The assessments on career counseling needs are all very low among three sample groups.
