Based on some theoretical researches on error analysis and learners' interlanguage, this thesis mainly explores the errors and the causes of the errors in the senior middle school students' English writings.First, the thesis investigates the errors made by the students of ShaShi Senior Middle School in their compositions. Then, an analysis of those errors is made following the procedures of identifying the errors, describing the errors, clarifying the errors, explaining the errors and evaluating the errors. After that, a questionnaire is designed to make a survey of the causes of the errors for the purpose of improving English teaching and learning. Some proper ways are suggested to both the teachers and the students in senior middle schools, particularly the ways for the teachers to cultivate their students in English thinking while writing.According to the investigation and the analysis of the errors, it is true that learners will make different errors in their different learning stages. Senior middle school students usually make some errors in their writings in spellings, dictions, sentence structures and some grammatical meanings of the text like the form of a letter, some oral words in written language, not cohesive sentences and so on. The causes of the errors are different ranging from the interference of the first language, the ignorance of the target language's rules, the overgeneralization of those rules, the learners' learning and communicating strategies and even the teachers' training ways for their students.In order to reduce the students' errors and develop their own language-interlanguage, senior middle school English teachers should first of all treat the errors properly and then use some correct ways to teach English, especially the ways to teach writing as way of thinking in English. Besides,language feeling is also important in language learning. The teachers should try hard to take much advantage of listening, reading and speaking to cultivate the students in the sense of the language.
