With the development of assessment reformation movement all over the world and the 8th curriculum reformation on elementary education in China, how to assess students' information literacy has now become the focus of many researches. Information Technology (IT) Grade Examination and Provincial Examination have been used to assess students' information literacy in many provinces and cities of our country. However, both of them are summative assessment, which pay more attention to students' basic knowledge and skill rather than 'process and method' as well as 'emotion, attitude and values'. The thesis chooses 'classroom', a special space-time continuum, as the breakthrough point of the research and intends to take IT classroom assessment as the complement of IT Grade Examination and Provincial Examination, and provides IT teachers in practice with operational assessment methods.The thesis shows the present research on the assessment of students' information literacy in middle school in two clues. One is the history of internal and external classroom assessment; the other is the general situation of the assessment of information literacy in the U.S, U.K, and China. IT classroom assessment is based on the constructivism theory, the multiple intelligence theory and the information literacy theory.The thesis constructs an assessment system of IT classroom assessment in middle school. It states assessment goals, contents and methods.
