During the past 15 years the athletes in our nation have made great progress in the long jump event. We have got remarkable achievements and even break the records of Asia as well as our nation for several times. Men's best performance reaches 8,40 m. Women's performance is improving steadily and approaching the international level gradually. In 1933 Ma Miao-lan and Yao Wei-li make good performance of 7.06 m. and 7.01 m. respectively which is the first time for Chinese women athletes to make a breakthrough at the point of 7 m. in long jump. This is the achievement of coaches, athletes and scientific researchers through their unremitting efforts and study. It should also be realized that compared with the international level we still have a long way to go. In order to narrow down the gap, improve women's long jump level and even get metals in internationalcontests we must analyse the skill features and its developmental tendency. How to improve our athletes' performance is the problem which needs solving immediately both in theory and practice. This dissertation gives and analysis of the performance of the first six long jumpers in National Track and Field Championships, Selective Trails for Olympic Games, held at the city of Shi Jia-zhuang in May of 2004. Based on the technical analysis of targets of the last step and take-off we discover:1. They are slower in the run-up speed than the excellent world athletes. Based on the maintenance of our speed utilization ratio the run-up speed must be increased further.2. They are much weaker in the muscle power than the excellent world athletes. In order to improved the performance, much exercise should be put on the legs.
