As a language teacher, I often hear students complaining that sometimes they have much difficulty in learning English grammar. How can we teachers teach English grammar more effectively? I think of a new method, using computers to aid in teaching and learning English. As we know, the coming of the Information Age means the changes of the teaching mode and studying way. With the development of modern information technology, computers have come into the education field and developed quickly. Due to the impact and influence of information technology on society and education, computer-assisted language learning is becoming the trend in foreign language teaching. Simple teaching tools such as the blackboard, the textbooks, chalk and tape recorders have fallen behind the times. The main purpose of this research is to find out the impact of CALL on the achievements of English grammar teaching. MY paper made an attempt to answer the following questions: Whether can CALL be useful for students to learn English grammar? Can the new method enhance grammar teaching and supplement the disadvantages of the traditional teaching way and how? Are the students interested in the new teaching method? Although there have been plenty of researches done in this area before, findings were not so consistent and researches about subject groups were limited in a way. This is one of the reasons why I chose this title as my research area.Based on the purpose above, the theoretical base for this study is a constructivist view of learning and the subjects of the research are 106 senior high school students from Benxi No.1 High School. In my experiment, there are two groups: Group One is"Computer-Based Group"totalling 52 and Group Two is"Teacher-Directed Group"totalling 54. Classroom observation, questionnaires, interviews and tests are deployed to collect data and the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods helps enormously in better interpretation of all the data from this study. In the paper, there are six chapters which can be divided into three parts. The first part will include an introduction (Chapter1) and a literature and research review concerning CALL and English grammar as well as the theoretical basis of CALL (Chapter 2 and Chapter 3), where I shall examine some classic literature and previous researches that have been done in these areas. In the second part, I will discuss the research methodology (Chapter4) and the data analysis (Chapter 5) .And the last part will show the conclusion, some implications and research limitations. The major findings of the research can be summarized as follows:●CALL is a useful method for students to learn English grammar;●CALL environment can uplift learners'motivation, interest and autonomy;●Students are interested in using CALL environment to learn English grammar;●CALL environment can enhance English grammar achievements and it can effectively supplement the disadvantages of the traditional English grammar teaching method.Based on the findings, the writer concludes that CALL does facilitate English grammar teaching and learning in China, which is greatly helpful for English teaching .and thus its related issues are worth further researching.
