Discipline as the most important element is the academic foundation and organizational basis for universities and colleges to play their roles in society. In the new period of development of China's higher education, that how to treat and handle the interdisciplinary infiltration and collaborative development between the agricultural and non-agricultural disciplines is an involved and significant problem in the discipline building-policy in agricultural universities and colleges. The value and function of agricultural disciplines is highlighting the performance of the agricultural universities and colleges, ensuring the strategic-advantages and characteristics at home and abroad to participate in high-tech competition, and attracting national strategic resources into national innovation system to play the main role.Agricultural-disciplines play an indispensable monopoly-role in attracting national strategic resources for agricultural universities and colleges, but hold a weak position in the market competition. There are often some of the non-agricultural disciplines in the competitive market with strong position. The value of non-agricultural disciplines is broadening the academic field, cultivating new growth points, attracting social and market resources. We concluded as follows:(1)Based on the current academic strength of Nanjing Agricultural University, it is not suitable for large-scale interdisciplinary advance, but should pay more attention to interdisciplinary subjects of mutual contacts, it needs about 10 years or even longer to promote interdisciplinary stage in various disciplines to be ripe.(2) It can be expected that the development of China agricultural universities in the next one or two decades will continue to focus on agricultural subjects as their own strategic focus, but the focus of the strategy will tend to expand. After the 10 or 20 years of exploration and accumulation of life sciences, information science and the humanities and social science disciplines, the key agricultural universities will be gradually into the school's strategic focus areas, a new strategic focus.
