Beauty Over Female Body

Female issue is on the top of research list in academic circles,and has been discussed by plenty of scholars,only from theory,not from practice. But by observing the daily life of women,this study understand how the mild power exert on female body,and further discussed the situation of social status of women in recent.Therefore,from three perspective—micro -sociological method,the power—body theory and theory of symbolical violence,applying method of case study,I interviewed 20 female undergraduates and white-collar workers in Changsha,who are 20-35 years old and wear high-heeled shoes in their daily life.The results are:on one hand,wearing high-heeled shoes and suffering the pain is an unintentional choice of female.In other words,as the result of mild power,female choose beauty over health.And the power is not political one from regime,not from single strength either, but a result of total social strength focusing on body,including politics, economics,law,culture,habitude and so on.On the other hand,the way of power—from the consciousness of female and discourse,make that female exist as object and become 'other'.Using habits and field as bait, power checks the body of female closely.Based on the above discussion,we know that on the surface,the female status have improved greatly,and women got a lot of rights.But on the other hand,the status hasn't changed.Women still be 'other',and have less chance than male.To change this situation,female have to change the way of cognition,and treat themselves from attitude of subject, not from the eyes of others.Otherwise,female couldn't counteract the social enticement,such as discourse,field,habits,and couldn't get freedom really.
