On Inter-generational Fairness

Nature exists before human being to come into being. Human being is the result of nature which has developed to a certain stage. Nature provides the living environment and raw materials for production so that man can make use of it. So the relationship between man and nature is that man came from nature and makes use of it and also are dependent on the nature. From the view of the development process of the relationship between man and nature, they are in constant conflict and coordination. In the beginning, man are in awe of nature. However, with the development of science and technology, mankind began to understand and use the laws of nature to conquer the nature. In the process, the relationship between man and nature has deteriorated, which followed by the deterioration of the living environment of mankind. People began to worry: If we continue to develop at the expense of environmental resources, then how our future generations to survive? At this point, the issue of inter-generational Fairness came out.The issue of inter-generational Fairness results from the development of industrial civilization and the deterioration of ecological environment, while in the process human begins to self-reflect. And it has become a basic value orientation of sustainable development. The causes of inter-generational Fairness issues related to people's values, socio-economic system and the way of life, as well as the production of the impact of science and technology, and many other factors. Therefore, to achieve inter-generational Fairness, we must change the way we live and the way we engage in the production activity. We must change people's values on life and shift from industrial civilization to ecological civilization. To achieve inter-generation Fairness is of great significance. It is a philosophical problem which related to the development of mankind to stretches from generation to generation and passes the earth civilization on. But there are also difficulties to realize it. It has a long way to go. This paper followed the method of combining history and logic, analysis and synthesis. It attempts to reveal the nature of inter-generational Fairness from the description of the occurrence and development process to explore the causes of the problem and its solution to the problem.
