Research On Operational Mechanism Of Service-Learning In American Higher Education

Service learning is an educational concept and practicing way which combines service and learning organically. By the combination of service goal and curriculum study in American higher education ,students are encouraged to work for community need and development by using their learnt knowledge, advance the understanding and applying of their professional knowledge through reciprocity in the course of service, and attain the sense of social duty while attending social construction and probing social problems. Due to its wide spread and participation , service learning gradually becomes an important educational mode in America. Through the study of service learning in American higher education, this essay discusses the operational mechanism ,explores the basic concept thereon ,analyzes the system standards of that , and combs the organization system the mechanism needs . Concept ,regulation , mode and organization make up the key parts while studying .Exclusion the introduction and conclusion , this article contains five chapters .Chapter one carders the historical developing process and summarizes the features of each phase of service learning in American higher education ; chapter two analyzes the theoretic foundation and principles ,and bring forth the operational mechanism service learning in American higher education ; chapter three presents the operation , management and related regulations of service learning in American higher education ; chapter four clarifies the operation mode and types of service learning in American higher education ; chapter five proposes the thinking and enlightenment of service learning in American higher education.Based on the discussion of service learning mechanism, author's view is formed as follows: Firstly, the suitability that the operation concept of service learning carries, embodies the combination of theory and practice. Secondly, the cooperative nature which the operation institution of service learning has reflects the mutually beneficial and win-win management .Thirdly, the reciprocity of service learning mechanism gives expression to the compatible and complementary security system. Fourthly, the variety of operation mode in service learning incarnates the equal emphasis on learning and thinking. Finally , the curriculum design, socialized operation, and scientific evaluation of service learning mechanism in American higher education , provides references for senior high school students'social practice in our country .
