This article is based on the point of existentialism, to investigate the death anxiety of human beings, and social work practice process to reduce the death anxiety.Based on the literature and the hypnosis, the article explains the theory of the therapeutic metaphors and how to deal with it in social work. By analyzing several Japanese novels written by Banana Yoshimoto which focus on death and a Chinese novel<To Live) written by Yu Hua, the article demonstrates how literature works reduce the death anxiety.Then the article proposes practical skills with the therapeutic metaphors to deal with the death anxiety, and how to use it for gerontological social work.
