Junior students’ physiology and psychology are undergoing a period of rapid development. Their psychological traits are both stability and instability. Researchers have focused on junior students’ mental health. The previous studies paid more attention to the development and influence of life satisfaction and coping styles from the horizontal perspective. The present study explored the reliability and validity of self-reported coping styles scale, and analyze the development tendency and mutual effect of life satisfaction and coping styles from a longitudinal perspective. This study consisted of two research:Study 1, we designed self-reported coping styles scale, and mainly test practical usage reliability and validity. The data results show that the self-reported coping styles scale has good reliability, validity and item discrimination, which is suitable for usage.Study 2,we explored the developmental tendency and relationship between junior’s life satisfaction and coping styles. The results show:(1) The life satisfaction of junior students decreased gradually.(2) There was a significant decreasing tendency of problem-focused coping, and an increasing tendency of emotional-focused coping.(3) The initial life satisfaction level was higher, the decreasing tendency of problem-focused coping was slower. Meanwhile, the higher the level of problem-focused coping, the slower the decreasing tendency of life satisfaction.(4) The initial level of life satisfaction has no effect on the tendency of emotional-focused coping. However, the higher the initial level of emotional-focused coping, the faster the decreasing tendency of life satisfaction.In general, the self-reported coping styles scale can be used to test the situation of Chinese junior’s coping styles. The developmental status of life satisfaction and coping styles was not optimistic. And there was certain relationship between the two.
