| The modern Chinese sentence-completing element(SCE) plays an indispensable role in generating Chinese sentences, which is helpful to transform a non-self sufficient sentence into a self-sufficient sentence on structure, semantics and pragmatics. This research with its aim to promote the methods of teaching Chinese as a second language, based on the written corpus of intermediate learners from English-speaking countries in the International Cultural Exchange School in Fudan University and a summary of the properties and features of modern Chinese SCE, investigates and analyzes the application of ten categories of SCE. This thesis consists of six parts as follows. The first part serves as an introduction which mainly presents the theoretical significance and application value and explains the corpus sources, methods of error judgment, theoretical basis and research methods in detail. The second part summarizes and briefly comments on previous researches on modern Chinese SCE and its application to Chinese as a second language and presents my viewpoint on this topic. The third part serves as a main body of this thesis with a survey on SCE and sentence-completing methods by the learners. Based on a large amount of corpus, we find that the error of omission has a largest percentage on each type of SCE. Besides, its regularities of error distribution are listed as follows:"了 1" of time and aspect category, "了 2" of mood category, "å°±"of correlation category, "会"and "è¦" of modal category, "都" of scope category and "很" of degree category. The fourth and fifth parts explain the SCE errors from the learners and propose some corresponding teaching strategies in the hope of providing practical assistance to the Chinese teaching in Fudan University in the future. The last part summarizes the whole thesis and points out its limitation and deficiency. |
