Inheritance And Innovation

Bela Bartok is one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century, the representative of the new nationalist music, founder of modern music in Hungary. With Stravinsky and Schoenberg, they were considered as staunch individualists and outstanding reformers. Based on the works of Bartok’s mode style and the overview of the famous "axis system" theory, with the combination of many of his works, the paper will put his theory into practical work to analyze, in order to understand Bartok’s creative thinking in-depth. Regarding roots of modern harmony development as a starting point, the paper analyses and studies the heritage and innovation Bartok music from the perspective of the classical functional harmony to "axis system". The study illustrates the inextricably link between music of the twentieth century and that of the classical and romantic period.
