Discussion around the profound question-whether or not the human beings have free will has never been stopped. Long has been the focus mainly set on the relations between free will and determinism because of the firm support of classical physics on the determinist stance. However, the possibility of indeterminist free will has been ignored. As the quantum theory introduced the concepts of indeterminism and fortuitousness, people recognized the potential of indeterminist free will and one of the typical advocates is Robert Kane.As Kane see it, the effect of modern compatibilist and dissolutionist attacks on free will bring four questions. These four questions remain at the center of free will debates to this day. The Compatibility Question:Is free will compatible with determinism? The Significance Question:Why do we, or should we, want to possess a free will that is incompatible with determinism? The Intelligibility Question:Can we make sense of a freedom or free willthat is incompatiblewith determinism? Is such a freedom coherent or intelligible? The Existence Question:Does such a freedom actually exist in the natural order, and if so,where?Imagine that the task for defenders of a traditional incompatibilist or libertarian free will is to climb to the top of a mountain and get down the other side. The ascent of this mountain involves answering the first pair of questions Compatibility and Significancein an incompatibilist way. The descent involves answering the second pair of questions Intelligibility and Existence for incompatibilist freedom. To get to the top of the mountain, in other words, is to show that there is a significant freedom worth wanting that is incompatible with determinism. To solve the free will puzzle from the fresh indeterminist stance could help understand the basic issues of ethics. The essay includes three parts to illustrate the thoughts of Kane:the first part describes the context of the problem and presents logically the determinism, indeterminism and . the perspective of Kane; the second part demonstrates the free will issue from Ascent and Descent problem respectively. The former shows the incompatibility between determinism and free will mainly via the consequence argument and the thought of Austin; the latter proposes parallel processing to resolve the uncertainty of free choices and solves the uncontrollable aspect of free choices through plural reason and self-shaping of behavior and will. The indeterminist free will thoughts connotes that humans are the creators of their own objectives and bear the ultimate responsibility and they achieve the free will through plural reason and the shaping of their own behavior and will. This part highlights the contributions of Kane to the contemporary developments of free will issue; the third part analyzes the importance of the existence of free will. The paper favors the indeterminist free will although it still confronts certain troubles which need the combination of philosophy, biology, physics and neurology etc. to find an answer.
