The Construction Of "Artistic Conception" And The Landscape Painting Of The Song Dynasty

"Artistic conception" is an important concept in Chinese classical aesthetics. The earliest introduction of this concept was in Shi Ge by Wang Changling, and it had since been used in the poetry literature. While the concept is no longer confined to poetry, it has gradually been introduced into Chinese paintings and the relevant studies. Dating back to Lao-Zhuang philosophy and combining the remarkable theories from Six Dynasties period to Song Dynasty on landscaping paintings, this thesis elaborated the construction and perfection process of "artistic conception" in Chinese landscaping paintings. It is believed that it was based on Guo Xi’s “San Yuan” that the aesthetical system of "artistic conception" in Chinese landscaping paintings was established. Meanwhile, by elucidating the construction methods and classifications of "artistic conception" in the Song landscape paintings, the author researches into the practical manifestation of "artistic conception" in landscape paintings, which reveals the aesthetic meaning of limitless beauty connoted by "artistic conception"...
