Language testing is the core component of language education.A well developed language testing system does not only reflect the potential problems in the process of language teaching, but also provides useful data for the further development of teaching. The establishment of the second language is a distinct symbol of measuring the maturity of existing language teaching of a country. Therefore, the second language testing plays an important role to promote their language overseas.Since the establishment of HSK in 1984,it has experienced a few reformations and obtained sustainable growth. However, there are still lots of issues that need to be solved.Japan has one of the most developed, sophisticated examination system just like HSK in China. It is the world’s largest standardized test to evaluate Japanese language proficiency for non-native speakers.JLPT also faced a great turning point in 2009.Although there are several differences between HSK and JLPT,they still share similarities in some aspects.Hence it is worthy to compare and investigate them. This paper aims to compare these two tests respectively based on the new contents and structures. Then illustrate the reliability and validity of each test from multiple perspectives.Through research and detailed analysis,we can find out the strengths and weaknesses of HSK.The results will contribute to the future direction of the language education reform.
