In the course of foreign language acquisition, learners’ academic motivation is one of the important factors that can affect learners’ foreign language learning. Learners’ academic motivation will change dynamically in foreign language learning, which will be enhanced or weakened. When the academic motivation is weakened, learners will experience the loss of interest in learning, the worse effect in learning, the insignificant effect in learning, and ultimately leading to the failure of foreign language learning. In this paper, dynamic and static research methods are used to investigate the present situation of learners’ demotivation in foreign language learning, the nine main factors resulting in demotivation(teacher personality and commitment, teacher competence, teaching style and method in teacher-related factors; learner’s self-confidence, attitude towards foreign language learning, learning experience in learner-related factors; textbook, class environment, school environment in environment-related factors), and the different causes of demotivation among different types of learners(learners with liberal arts majors, learners with science and engineering majors; learners with different learning length; learners who already got the certificate of language proficiency and learners who didn’t get the certificate of language proficiency). Based on the findings, the suggestions to improve the learner’s demotivation in the future foreign language teaching are presented in the paper.
