Baroque is a momentous and distinctive period in western music history. Baroque composers presented a lot of interesting and forward-looking ideas that influenced later music a great deal. Chaconne in d minor by Bach and chaconne in g minor by Vitali are two representative baroque violin works that stand the test of time and become standard violin repertory. I will do a close analysis, and compare the style and technique of the two-piece to get a better understanding on both baroque style, musical aesthetics and chaconne itself. This essay will also be helpful to get more knowledge about the two composers in order to learn and perform their pieces better.
