| The music in the world of Islam is a worldwide musical culture form, not only exerted considerable influence on Asian and Middle Eastern musical culture, but also played an important role in prompting the advent of the musical culture renaissance in medieval Europe. However, as one of three major musical systems, compared with musical cultures of Buddhism and Christianity, the music of Islam hasn’t received much academic attention in China, and studies on it started up late with fewer achievements produced,thus leaving a great gap for scholars who have the ambition and willingness of devotion to fill in.The thesis focused on the translation and introduction of music in the world of Islam, analyzed and further explored the aesthetic topics of Islamic music in the book. Firstly, the concept of “music†in the Islamic context was analyzed to exhibit the complexity and richness of its meanings, indicating it wasn’t identical with the western concept of “musicâ€. Secondly, oriented with the spiritual guidance of Islam, the faith of “Worship of Only One Godâ€embodied in Sufi ritual music and the symbolism of Sama traditions were discussed in detail.The thesis emphasized on the forth chapter, in which different attitudes of the three sects of Sunnite, Shiah and Sufi towards music were presented referring to the Koran and Hadith on which Islam is based. And reasons,reflection and enlightenment of those differences were also explicitly illustrated. |
