This is an English-Chinese translation report. The source text, named Smart Grid Smart City: Shaping Australia’s Energy Future Executive Report, was released by Australian government for the purpose of summarizing the current findings and outcomes of the project. The ST is an official document containing the knowledge of electric industry, which makes the text representing science characteristics. According to the Text Typology Theory of Katharina Reiss, the intended function of the text is informative, meaning the information conveyed in the TT should be equivalent to that in the ST. Firstly the paper briefly introduces the basic information of the task, including the selection of ST and the arrangement of the translation process. Then the author illustrates translating strategies used in the translation practice through case analysis. With the coherence of the TT being the top priority and main principle, strategies such as diction order adjustment, breaking and restructuring sentences, using parentheses and omission are applied in realizing the communication function of the translation. Last but not least, this paper also summarizes experiences and lessons learned in the practice. |
