Marine monitoring technology is one of the major components of ocean technology. It provides technical means and scientific basis for the comprehensive management of the marine environment. Wireless monitoring system based on buoy is one of the main means of marine monitoring. In this paper, a monitoring system based on buoys is developed to overcome the limited distance between communication buoy nodes and meet the application requirements for marine monitoring.Firstly, a method of communication between long distant buoy based on beamforming was proposed. Furthermore, the effect of the scheme proposed was verified by using simulations performed under the condition of regular waves. Secondly, a prototype of a wireless communications network based on ZigBee and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) technology was developed according to the needs of the marine monitoring applications. Thirdly, Scientific Instrument Interface Module (SIIM) remote data acquisition system was developed for undersea observation network project. This provides a reference for data acquisition system. Finally the assembly and commissioning of underwater multi-channel data acquisition system and SIIM remote data acquisition system was accomplished.In this paper, the study of ocean monitoring buoy system provides important support for full real-time marine monitoring.
