Photobiology is the study of the interaction between optical radiationand biological tissues subject. The main research contents of photobiologicalsafety include the optical radiation hazards on human skin and eyes, and safetyevaluation and using recommendations on varieties of artificial light sourcesto improve the public protection awareness. Because of the particularity andcomplexity of the measurement in the field of photobiological safety, Chinahas not yet established the relevant metrological standard apparatus andtraceability system until now. On the basis we make a research onphotobiological safety standards and measuring methods, establish themetrological standard apparatus and traceability system. The main researchcontents and achievements including:(1) The photobiological safety standards and development carried out thedomestic and abroad literatures research and comprehensive review. A detailedcomparison of the differences between standards was presented.(2) Based on Artificial Neural Network has good nonlinear mapping andgeneralization ability, we proposed a divide-and-conquer RBF neural networkmodel for standard lamp of spectral irradiance data, aim to reduce theuncertainty of dissemination from standard lamp to photobiologicalmeasurement system, and made a comparison with the Planck-polynomial modelto prove superiority of the RBF neural network.(3) Established the metrological standard apparatus and traceabilitysystem of photobiological safety for the weighted irradiance, spatiallyaveraged radiance and apparent source measurement. The performances includewavelength accuracy, measurement repeatability were tested.(4) The analytical approach of radiation hazard risk group and hazarddistance information was presented. Based on the radiometer, we proposed asimplified method to determine the hazard distance of sources, and validatedit by experiments. The photobiological measurements for table lamp,ultraviolet light source and mobile phone flash lamp were taken, and theradiation hazard risk group and hazard distance information were given toprovide guidance for using safety.
