Slope is one of the most common geological problems in engineering construction which may lead to serious geological disasters. Stratified rock slope is not only the most widely distributed, especially in the western region in China, but also complex and diverse. Therefore, the slope body structure and deformation and destruction become the major geological problem which restricts the practice of engineering. At present, the study about the stratified rock slope lacks of systematic research and common utility. Based on this, this article sets up a comprehensive slope structure classification system, on the basis of slope body structure characteristics, the deformation failure mechanism of stratified rock slope, patterns and types, and discusses the corresponding transformation relationship between the slope body structure and the deformation and destruction of complexity are summarized. Finally, Ci ha gorge hydropower station dam site area which belongs to stratified rock slope is chosen as an example to objectify slope structure classification, furthermore, its deformation failure mode, mechanism and characteristics are also analyzed so as to verify science and rationality of the results of the study, which provides the theory basis for this kind of slope stability evaluation and engineering measures.The main results of research as follows.(1) On the basis of a large number of previous research results, the concept of stratified rock slope body structure is precisely summarized. The systemic classification of 1 stratified rock slope body structure is established after considering the combination of the lithological combination, structure, surface characteristics, the combination relation of lay occurrence and the air surface, which provides a systematic and detailed characteristic of body structure of all kinds of slope.(2) Based on the systematic classification of layered rock slope body structure, under the guidance of engineering geology analysis, the deformation failure mechanism, models and types are further explored by using numerical simulation method. Thus, the slope body structure and the corresponding relations between the deformation failure mode and mechanism are emphasized, which is about relevance, dynamic and transformation.(3) A research system about the concept of stratified rock slope body structure, the slope structure types, deformation failure mechanism, deformation failure mode and deformation destruction type was established based on the above study, which take a typical layered rock slope with natural database Ci ha gorge hydropower station dam site as an example, scientific and reasonable explanation for characteristics and patterns of deformation failure is provided.
