This topic is an applied research aimed at monitoring Amery IceShelf and the ice conditions of the cryosphere around the Zhongshanstation.It is funded by the National Natural Science Foundation ofChina,‘Research of sea ice thickness monitoring method based on sensortechnology’(ID:60672028) and ‘The comprehensive inspection andevaluation of Polar environment’ which is one of projects of the the12thFive-Year Plan(ID:CHINAER2014-02-02).As human beings continue the exploration of the Arctic andAntarctic,in which people carried out a variety of research.With thedeepening of the study, scientists found that sea ice plays a vital role inmany areas the Earth’s climate, the polar oceans, the evolution of thepolar cryosphere and biosphere in the north and south poles.Every yearsea ice can account for seven per cent of Earth’s surface,of which thelargest part of the distribution is in the Earth’s poles, apparently sea iceaccounts for a large in the Arctic and Antarctic research.Thegrowth,melting and the drift of sea ice is the important part of research.Researchers to take a lot of ways to monitor sea ice,such as satelliteremote sensing technology,aerial aircraft and building ice station tomonitor sea ice in suit.However, these techniques has its shortcomings,such as the economy is poor, accuracy is not high and can not belong-term continuous observation, etc.This paper introduces thedevelopment and the present situation of sea ice measurement technology,describes the current advantages and disadvantages of sea ice monitoring tools, especially the lack of sea ice monitoring of our country with respectto polar powers and presents improvements and future direction of icebuoy.Combined the environment of polar region,we have designed icebuoy monitoring system which based on self-made float.In this papermonitoring system take based-ice buoy and ocean buoy as itscarriers.This paper describes the monitoring programs and controlsoftware.Including a variety of sensors, GPS positioning module andIridium module, the successful development of sea ice buoy monitoringsystem to achieve unattended harsh environment of long-term continuousremote monitoring of sea ice parameters.The monitoring system uses a capacitive sensor to determine icethickness and thermistor chain to monitoring changes in temperatureduring the growth of sea ice profile.The monitoring system uses acapacitive sensor to determine ice thickness and thermistor chain tomonitoring changes in temperature during the growth of sea iceprofile.Two sonar,one of which is underwater and another is above seaice, are used to determine ice thickness in supplemental monitoring andthe function of GPS is positioning the track sea ice. Real-time data istransmitted by Iridium network.This system has advantage in economical,high accuracy and real-time data communication.The monitoring system had taken laboratory and the field oflow-temperature experiments, as well as30th and6th Antarctic Arcticfield experiments,and the results show that the sea ice buoy monitoringsystem with reliable stability, accuracy and a low packet loss rate ofcommunication data,etc., effectively providing support for scientificexpeditions in north and south poles.
