Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) is an active microwave sensor developed in the late 50’s of twentieth Century. Since the external environment has no effect on SAR observation, it can be observed at any environment and at any time. Because SAR technology can penetrate plants and some ground.Therefore, the Synthetic Aperture radar technology has been widely used in many fields such as mapping, resource exploration, geological and environmental monitoring.In the progress of current world urbanization speed to accelerate, the rapid development of the city and the expanding situation, the high resolution SAR of observation can be shorten and powerful data support for the urban structure analysis and real-time city change information extraction. From the urban environment extracted buildings in military surveillance, tracking, mission planning, training, and loss estimates have important significance; on the map, land use investigation and other aspects of urban planning has also been widely used, especially, as in recent years, the city’s economic development, natural resource allocation, environmental protection and other issues become more and more attention, which makes the demand of city geography information of environmental changes sharply increased, which a significant demand is for building 3D reconstruction. However, the resolution of SAR images is lower, which makes the research of 3D reconstruction of urban buildings with SAR images limited.In 2007, the German Terra SAR-X high resolution radar satellite launch marks the successful spaceborne SAR has entered a new era, it has the advantage of short revisit period, high spatial resolution, short wavelength, multi polarization, multi mode, high precision surface monitoring tiny deformation. So it has very strong theoretical and practical significance to study the 3D reconstruction of urban buildings using high-resolution Terra SAR-X images.This paper mainly studies the 3D reconstruction of buildings in Xi’an city by Terra SAR-X high resolution image, and evaluates the accuracy of DEM.. Its main contents include:1、Introduce the basic principle and data processing procedure of In SAR and the related algorithms. Also,analyzed the main source of error of DEM by In SAR.2、The 3D reconstruction of buildings in Xi’an city is carried out by using Terra SAR-X image. the gamma software processing parameters of the Terra SAR-X image to do a simple explanation, and finally the experimental results were analyzed.3、The DEM is filtered by median filtering, and the average of three pieces of DEM is processed...
