The tertiary fault activities play an important role to the hydrocarbon generation, migration, accumulation and distribution in Dongpu sag. For the exploration and development, previous have done many researches on the basin analysis and reservoir description in the area of north of Yellow River, Dongpu sag. But, because the geological structure is complex in this area and it is a low oil-abundance area, it is not enough that the comprehensive research on relationship between the fault feature and the oil-gas reservoir forming in the past years.This paper’s research object is the fault activities characteristics formed in the Sahejie and Dongying formation of Palaeogene in the area of south of Yellow River, Dongpu sag , This research combined the fined tectonic analysis on the some typical area, and sum up the rules that fault activity affect the hydrocarbon migration and accumulation, to further guide the oil and gas exploration.It is continental facies complicated faulted-blocks reservoirs on area of south of Yellow River, Dongpu sag, in which the faults are very developed, structure is crushed, and the faults mainly control the hydrocarbon migration and accumulation . This paper integrated exploited many technologic methods of Structure Geology, Petroleum Geology , and so on, guided by the extension basin analysis theories, Systematic study that the feature of faults and the faults effect on the hydrocarbon migration and accumulation, build the pool-forming pattern of hydrocarbon and predict hydrocarbon distribution in the south of Yellow River.The many important conclusions are obtained from the research as follow.1.Bsaed on the background that Dongpu sag belongs to a Cenozoic rifted basin, it develops many faults and has a complex faults system in the research areas.2.The main geologic structure characteristics of the research areas, which be controlled by the faults ,show three swells and three sags in plane and half-graben structure on the section.3.Hydrocarbon generation, migration , accumulation , distribution in this area are controlled by faults.4.The rule of hydrocarbon distribution in the research area: the tilted fault blocks is a relatively independent generation-migration-accumulation unit, there are many the oil reservoirs in vertical that be controlled by faults in side direction , the oil reservoirs on the center uplift belt display as a brush, distribution model of Pyramid as the hydrocarbon multi-period generation and migration .
