During the period of the Republic of China,avariety of natural disasters took place frequently in Guizhouprovince,a vast area affected seriously by the naturaldisasters, the scale of the damage was massive.And a lot oftimes several kinds of natural disasters occured in one year,especially in1919.Drought,floods,hail,famine,plague andother catastrophic natural disasters affected the wholeprovince,the huge impact and enormous harm brought by thenatural disasters were extremely rare in the history.The uniquehydrology,geology,topography,soil,vegetation and othernatural factors of Guizhou constituted the main reasons ofserious natural disasters.On the other hand,Guizhou provinceunder the govern of Xingyi warlords was bureaucracycorrupt,bandits infest,social unrest,economic dislocation andpeople’s ability to withstand natural disasters were seriouslyshrinked.Frequent natural disasters increased the burden ofGuizhou people who were already poverty.The victims facedsevere food shortage,rising prices,displaced and exile.The natural disasters in1919brought severe disasters toall ethnic groups in Guizhou,Guizhou government also carriedon corresponding relief measures,but the result was not idealbecause of many other factors.The measures had many defects and shortcomings,but were still worth to be affirmed.On anotherhand,people from all ranks of society volunteered to contributemoney and power in the front of natural disasters.They raisedfunds to relieve victims through subsidy and collection,helpedvictims through difficulties.It reflected the charity thoughtof China since ancient times and the "A difficult one P Plussupport"spirit of Chinese nation.By studying the naturaldisasters in Guizhou province in1919,make people realize theimportance of making series of measures to against disastersin present along with frequent natural disasters,and do betterin the harmonious relationship between human and nature.
