As the festival tourism develops rapidly, its products become more diversified.As a product, the development of local food festival activities in the form of thefestival can greatly enrich the content of festival tourism and enhance the touristattraction, which have attracted more and more attention and welcome of tourists.Meanwhile, in the process of development of mass tourism, special interest tourismis increasingly prominent, tourism festival activities become one of the importantforms of food culture tourism development. Since China’s reform and opening up,Guangdong takes the lead in the food festival through the form of cookingcompetitions, which uncovered the prelude of the modern food festival activities.Facing the rapid development of festival tourism, the theoretical exploration aboutfood festival itself is relatively scarce, we find it a very significant theoretical andpractical proposition to research festival tourism products, analyzes the relationshipbetween food festivals and tourism, concrete combinations of food festivals andtourism and to drive the development of local tourism economy.Based on a comprehensive literature review on festival tourism at home andabroad, this thesis mainly makes an analysis of inbound and outbound famous foodfestivals, combinations of Guangzhou International Food Festival and tourism, andideas of developing food festival tourism.The main content of this thesis including:(1) The definition of core concepts and research category. It defines theconcept and connotation of food festival, makes clear the scope of this study.(2) An overview of the food festival activities. It outlines the developmentcourse of food festival and evolution characteristics, analyzes the formation andevolution of modern food festival, summarizes the characteristics and basic types offood festival activities, discusses the relationship between food festivals and tourismsystematically.(3)The development of inbound and outbound representative food festivals. Ittakes the Oktoberfest in Munich、Macau Food Carnival as examples of outboundfood festivels, Qingdao International Beer Festival、Guangzhou International Food Festival as examples of inbound food festivals, and conducts a comparision study.(4)A case analysis of tourism festivals about food. By choosing theGuangzhou International Food Festival as the study case, this thesis sums updeveloping practice of combining Guangzhou International Food Festival withtourism. It makes an analysis of market efficiency and detailedly analyzes theinteractive development between Guangzhou International Food Festival andtourism by using the SWOT method. After that, it studies the opinions of visitors andlocal people based on data collected at the27th International Food Festival inGuangzhou. On the basis of the investigation, some existing problems andcorresponding countermeasure and the strategies of how to develop food festivaltourism product were put forward.(5)Developmental conception of food festival tourism. From the perspectiveof the development of tourism, this thesis points out operation mode and basicprinciples, discusses development ideas from three levels of tourism culture, tourismproducts and tourism elements, strategies and suggestions were proposed, which cangive some useful reference to the development of food festival tourism products.
