Membrane separation technology developed in1960s is a high-technologymultidisciplinary subject. Membrane separation technology which has played anincreasingly important role has been widely used in all aspects of people’s life andproduction, such as chemical, environmental protection, electronic, light industry,petroleum, food, pharmaceutical, bioengineering, energy engineering, etc. HollowFiber Ultrafiltration Membrane which is one kind of Ultrafiltration membrane hasbeen widely used in sea water desalination, pharmaceutical,food,environmentalprotection,etc.In addition to routine filtrate, Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration Membrane is also used incold sterilization of liquid,as it can remove bacteria. The combined of ultrafiltrationand reverse osmosis is common used in production and also used in the preparation ofwater for injection. Method using PEG,glycan and protein is not suitable for theevaluation of the bacteria retention for Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration Membrane,Whilethe method using model bacterium for the bacterial retention of hollow fiberultrafiltration is a direct and effective one. The reference material between bacterialretention and other retention materials are different.Bacterias are living body,only useliving bacterias can we get true and reliable data.So,we must consider the effects ofexperimental conditions on the biological activity.If we damaged the biologicalactivity of bacteria,the data deviation will occur.So,we must use appropriatetemperature,press,current velocity,operate time and so on in keeping with thebiological activity of bacteria.Based on the above reasons, the evaluation method ofbacterial retention for Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration Membrane is studied in this paper.Bacterial retention performance for Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration Membrane showsthat the flux changes great with time, pollution is more serious and rapid when theIntercepted Molecular Weight is greater; the bacteria retention performance increasesif the experiment last a longer time, which is concerned with gel layer; temperaturehas little influence on flux and retention performance; bacterial retention performanceexperiments should not use bigger pressure, because the contribution of gel layeraffect the evaluation of bacterial retention performance innate in themselves;Beforehand filtrate experiments show that gel layer affect the flux great; the longerthe experiment lasts, the more damages it does to the bacteria, but higher press has little influence on bacteria.The evaluation using PEG and glycan for the retention of Hollow FiberUltrafiltration Membrane is not reliable for it changes greatly; the evaluation usingBovine Serum Albumin and Chicken Ovalbumin for the retention of hollow fiberultrafiltration has stable data and is more reliable, but it is not suitable for bacterialretention performance of Hollow Fiber Ultrafiltration Membrane. While the methodusing model bacteria for the bacterial retention performance of hollow fiberultrafiltration is direct and effective.
