Fixed abrasive polishing as an advanced polishing technology became a research focus of theacademic community in recent years. Ice fixed abrasive polishing also drew people’s attention as itssimple polishing pad preparation process and low polishing temperature. At present, the research onIFAP most focuses on flat polishing pad preparation and material removal mechanism. Polishing padwith no grooves can’t discharge effluent efficiently and its material removal ratio is not very well. Tosolve the above problems, we invent the ice fixed abrasive polishing pad with different grooves, andstudy their performance on glass-ceramics polishing.The main work includes the following aspects:1. Study on refining of micro α-Al2O3and dispersion stability of the suspensionsStudy on different dispersion methods of micro α-Al2O3solution. The dispersion methods includeultrasonic dispersion, milling and adding surfactants. We need to optimize the dispersion process torefine the micro α-Al2O3particle and improve the dispersion stability of the suspensions.2. Preparation of ice fixed abrasive polishing pad with groovesUsing different methods to prepare ice fixed abrasive polishing pad with grooves, and find thebest method. Design and machine radial grooving mold and grid-shaped grooving mold, and use themto groove ice fixed abrasive polishing pad.3. Study on material removal uniformity of ice fixed abrasive polishing pad with groovesBuilding stress field model of polishing process of ice fixed abrasive polishing pad with groovesin ANSYS and ABAQUS. Use the Von Mises to characterize the uniformity of the material removaland material removing rate. The result can guide and verify the latter polishing test, and furtherenhance the accuracy of the test.4. Study on polishing performance of ice fixed abrasive polishing pad with radial grooves andgrid-shapes groovesPerform polishing tests of ice fixed abrasive polishing pad with radial grooves and grid-shapesgrooves. Analyze the effect of polishing pressure, spindle speed, eccentricity and polishing time tomaterial removing rate and surface roughness of glass-ceramics. We get the best process parameters ofpolishing glass-ceramics using fixed abrasive polishing pad with different grooves. Compared withthe polishing pad which has no grooves, the polishing pad with grooves has higher material removalratio and better workpiece surface appearance.
