Towels are goods that people often use in daily life, especially using more frequently in the consumer sites such as rummery, restaurant and hotel. Towels are usually sold directly after production for consumers. However, in many occasions, towels are often folded into lots of shapes. It can not only store and transport more easily, but also make consumers use more easily. In order to forming various shapes of towels, towels need achieve different folding forms. Therefore, it has an important significance for the study of towel folding machine. Through searching related literatures, the current automatic towel folding machines for large size of towel have many types and high production efficiency. But it only has a small types of automatic towel folding machines for small size of towel such as400mm×400mm and below.There is a "omelet style" small towel that has a folding form which is similar to omelet. The towel becomes small after folding and rolling, uses and stores easily.So it widely uses in aviation, restaurant and other fields.This kind of towel is usually folded by person which will waste labour force, increase the cost of towel roll, and cause towel’s pollution. In response to these problems, this paper designs a new type of automatic towel folding machine that can complete small towel’s feeding, folding and rolling process in automation.The machine can greatly reduce labour force and costs of towel roll, increase the production efficiency. This paper will complete several parts of contents as follows:(1) The paper introduces current research and related research achievements for home and abroad, researches the common feeding, folding and rolling devices for the towel, introduces the main research methods and research ideas of the paper.(2) Based on analysing types of feeding and rolling, the towel’s folding position., design the structure of the machine, including feeding, three folding and rolling structure and finally build the three-dimensional model of automatic feeding towel folding machine.(3) Import the three-dimensional model of towel folding machine to ADAMS software and make motion simulation. Use IF functions to set the relation between simulation time and velocity for each drive unit. By analysing the simulation proves that towel folding machine’s motion can meet the requirement and has no interference.T’hrough getting the graphs of velocity and acceleration of each moving part, these can provide a theoretical basis for the design of control system.(4) Design, calculate and select major components after creating three-dimensional model and simulating the motion, and then process, manufacture and purchase these components.The machine will debug after installing all components.Finally make towel folding test, according to the results of the towel test proves that the towel machine can complete towel’s automatic feeding, folding and rolling process. Improve the first folding structure so that the towel can get better result, achieve the expected goal.Integrate throughout the whole process of designing, simulating, manufacturing, assembling and testing of towel folding machine, it can prove that towel folding machine can achieve automatic feeding, folding, and rolling process for "omelet style" small towel.Meanwhile, the machine can save labour force, reduce costs and greatly improve the working efficiency.Research findings of the paper can provide a good foundation for practical application in production of automatic feeding towel folding machine.
