Drum open-air shearer is a large open pit mining equipment, which gathers mining, crushing, loading and other functions. Compared with the traditional open-air mining equipment it has certain advantages. Thus get the attention of open-pit mining sector and its development is relatively rapid.Since the power of shearer will continue to increase, it is limited to use in the coal mine,where there is no electricity condition or is shortage of electricity condition. At the same time, the cutting trajectory of drum center is circular, the "Heap of coal" phenomenon is quite serious. The drum in front of open-air shearer exists "residual coal" problems. In this paper, the above issues in drum open-air shearer have been studied and the appropriate solutions have been proposed.This paper describes the composition structure and characteristics of the drum open-air shearer. It elaborated on the present situation of the drum open-air shearer and pointed out its problems. In response to these problems in drum open-air shearer, it took all hydraulic diesel-type open-air shearer as the research object and introduced the composition, characteristics, operating principles and performance parameters briefly. It re-modular designed the working mechanism of this shearer and built a mathematical model of the working mechanism hinge point optimization. The hinge point optimization of the working mechanism is solved by nonlinear constrained optimization. According to the results of the hinge point optimization, put the working mechanism into big arm, small arm and cutting unit, etc. and design the concrete structure of each module by the idea of modular design. It took the welding process of each component, the pin lubrication of each hinge point, the connection of each component and the general of electric motor drive scheme and motor drive scheme into consideration in the structural design of each part. According to the actual work of the drum open-air shearer, the center of the drum at the highest point, the median, the lowest point and jack-up the shearer when the center of the drum at the lowest point were selected to finite element analysis. Finally, it analyzed the kinematics of the working mechanism and carried on the trajectory planning of the working mechanism.The above results show that the designed working mechanism can meet the requirements of the drum center to cut a straight line and solve the "heap of coal" phenomenon to some extent. Cutting unit at both ends of the drum tilting before can effective solve the "residual coal" problem. The modular design can achieve the general of electric motor drive scheme and motor drive scheme. The trajectory planning of working mechanism can achieve the control law of big arm cylinder and small arm cylinder, provide a reference for subsequent control.
