The recycle gas cooler in the unit was studied in this paper, it’s a fixed tube-sheet heatexchanger and overall tilted. The finite element numerical solution was used to ensure that thedesign of the cooler is reasonable and safe.In order to achieve the analytical purpose, introduce fixed tube-sheet heat exchanger’sstructure in the first place, immediately following the introduction of the heat transfer theoryand the strength analysis theory associated with shell and tube heat exchanger, then the designcriteria and verification standards were introduced. The finite element theory foundation andthe software ANSYS which was used were also introduced at the same time. Finally, theachievements which were made by predecessors by the use of ANSYS were summarized. And the stress analysis and safety assessment of the recycle gas cooler were launched on thisbasis.According to the structure of the cooler and considering the symmetry of loading andboundary conditions,1/2cooler including the tube-boxes, tube-sheets, flanges, tubes, cylinderand saddle was choose for the study. The finite element model was established after map orsweep meshing by using SOLID70and SOLID185, which are the unique thermal analysiselement and structure analysis unite of ANSYS. Then analyze the temperature field and stressfield of the cooler under two temperature loads and six kinds of working conditions, and dothe thermal-structural coupling analysis under three kinds of working conditionsafterwards(the principle of selecting load case is based on GB151provisions and gettingall-around and specific results). After every analysis, extract the analysis results andsummarize the distribution characteristics and laws. The path operation was based on themaximum stress node and the stress concentration area, and the stress classification and safetyassessment were set up according to checking standard from GB151with analysis and designcriteria from JB4732, the checking of safety factor was also included. The evaluation resultsshowed the stress states were met checking under every working condition. Taking the specialinstallation of the cooler into account, the stress field of fixed saddle and sliding saddle underthe gravity condition and the most dangerous condition was studied in the last chapter of thispaper, and compare and summarize the stress distribution laws of two saddles.
